Halloween Costumes

Here are the girls in the costumes-Arden was Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz, and Reese was Cinderella. These pictures were actually taken a week before Halloween-the night of the Autumn Festival at Arden's school. Halloween night Reese didn't want to dress up, but Arden went as a 50's girl-she had the cutest pink poodle skirt! I just realized I didn't get a picture of her. Darn.

Leave it to me!

I thought I could make it an entire week without doing something stupid, but apparently I cannot! This evening my mom was driving the girls and me to a friend's house so we could hang out there for Halloween. We turned the corner onto the street where Randy lives, and I noticed that his garage door was left open. He and his kids were headed to Midland for a soccer tournament. I tried to call him, but he didn't answer. So I decided I would push the garage door button and run out-easy enough, I've done that before. First I had to push all the wrong buttons and open the other door, etc. Found the right one and ran--as I tried to use my Mission Impossible skills and jump over the laser, I fell flat on the driveway. Mom didn't see it happen, but said she looked up and saw me laying there, but since I was laughing she figured I was ok! The thought did cross my mind to try it again, but luckily the smarter side of my brain took over. I closed the door and went thru the house. I talked to Randy right after this, and there was a key in the mailbox after all. I ended up with a skinned knee and knuckles. You'd think with all I've been thru lately I would be tough, but these little injuries kind of hurt! Luckily I've got my neosporin and Dora bandaids. :)

Little update that turned out long, and a funny story

Been out of commission for a while now. Had a spinal tap done 2 weeks ago and it completely kicked my hiney. I was literally in bed from Monday until Saturday. The following Sunday I got out of bed a bit, but was definitely cranky and not in my best mood. The Monday after that I had a port put in my arm-now nurses can access this for iv's or for taking blood. That was a bit uncomfortable and sore for a few days, so typing wasn't much fun. The next few days I spent getting ready for radiation on my spine and brain. That wore me out a bit-you should see this contraption-it looks like a medieval prison torture device! I lay on my belly, face down, with a mesh helmet thing that clips on top of my head--all this to say I cannot move at all. Then they use lasers to get my spine in the right place. As they are getting me level, they mark places on my back with a sharpie marker. It is rather alarming looking!! I've only been a few times and my back is FULL of markings-I would post a picture but that is kind of weird! The closest I'll ever be to getting a real tattoo, that's for sure!
Last Friday I woke up feeling decent, started eating breakfast and took some pain medicine. Almost immediately I was sick. And that continued all day. Couldn't keep anything down all day. I even missed my radiation appt. because I could not get out of bed. That evening was hard, and I really didn't sleep well. Sometime in the middle of the night I decided that I was going to the ER when it was morning. Came in a bit after 7 am, and was in a regular room a little while after lunchtime I think. Come to find out I was bleeding again (the same type thing that happened a month ago that got all of this started.) So i had morphine all day Saturday, and by Sunday morning I was much better. Now here it is Monday lunchtime and we are waiting to hear from the doctor's as to what our next plan of action is, or if we continue with what we've been doing.

Enough of the boring stuff...not to my funny story!
When I went in last Monday to have my port put in, they told me they would put me to sleep, even though it would be a short procedure. I get into the operating room and the anest. puts the mask on my face for me to breathe the happy air. I don't know what came over me, but I pushed his arm away and said, "I wasn't ready for that!" He tried to console me, but I did not like it one bit! I don't know if it was last minute uneasiness or the fact that the mask covered up my entire face, including part of my eyes! I think I needed the kid size one! Then the nurses proceeded to hold me down until I fell asleep.
Fast forward to wake up time...I remember a male nurse rolling me back to the post op area. When I started waking up I remembered talking to this nurse. When he was rolling me back from the surgery I said, "Oh, aren't you supposed to be at work?" (thought it was Randy!!) Then I remember telling him I was sorry, I thought he was someone else! When I was waking up I apologized to him and told him I guess I was just confused. Then he said that I also asked him to come by my house that evening!! Haha! Didn't remember that part! I was so embarrassed! He said it was no big deal, people always say funny things-he said sometimes ladies think he is their husband and try to reach up and kiss him! At least I didn't do that! For those that are wondering-he didn't come by that night...but Randy did! :)

So that's all for now-just waiting on doctors...sigh...

Cute

I can see how this could totally happen-those MRI machine tunnels are TINY!!!

Things I learned in the hospital

I forgot to mention all the interesting things I learned in the hospital:

1. They can weigh you in the bed-isn't that cool?! I kept meaning to get several people on the bed and see how high we could get the scale to register.

2. Instead of bringing you 3 meals a day, you order your own food whenever you want. It's called 'room service' just like a hotel! (they don't serve all night, but you can order from 6 am to 7 pm) And the coolest part is that you can get whatever items on the menu you want. If you want a cheese pizza, mashed potatoes, pudding and prune juice-it's yours! Dad thought it would be funny to order lots of things, "Yeah, give me 3 pizzas, 2 caesar salads, a hamburger, 2 corndogs and 3 cokes," just to see what they would say!

3. Another food observation-I noticed on the menu that you could order cheese enchiladas and beef strogonoff, among other large, rich meals. I was wondering what in the world you could be in the hospital for that a plate of hospital enchiladas sounded good to order. Obviously people order it or they wouldn't have those things as options, but I preferred the chicken broth myself!

4. This is just something I thought was funny--all night long people come in to take blood or take your blood pressure, etc. One time a nurse walked in, turned on the overhead light and said, "Good morning!" I looked at the clock and it was freakin 2 am!!! She could at least come in quitely, turned on the bathroom light and do what she needed to do. After several nights I could sleep thru someone taking my blood!

As stressful (and that's putting it mildly) the hospital stay was, there were many, many times that we all laughed and laughed. There were 2 evenings that we were so noisy that I still cannot believe someone didn't come in and tell us to be considerate of the old people in the other rooms! Dad--remember the night you were telling Cousin Ed and his woman the "funniest story ever" and we were crying we were kaughing so hard?! Never in my life do I remember ever seeing you laugh that hard!! :)

Woo hoo I went out tonight!

Tonight I went out to dinner with Randy and Lisha-we went to Abuelo's and it was wonderful. I had bacon wrapped shrimp-man I love anything wrapped in bacon!! And the photographs on the menu were amazing! They were so well done they actually made my mouth water. Someone very talented must have taken them. Probably someone very hip.

Anyway...it was nice to get out for a bit tonight. :)

Girl down!

It's not a good idea to dance in plastic Snow White high heels. *Revised* relized I had the wrong video!

What the heck?!

Last week I had a doctor's appointment. Of course the whole fam came along. When the doctor came in he did the usual listening to my heart business, then he had me lay down. Right there in the midst of my parents, he performed a freakin breast exam!! Guess he thought we were a really close family! Glad I can laugh about it!

Funny!

So I'm sitting here in my recliner like an old lady, and saw this infomercial: https://www.getsnuggie.com/flare/next

Watch the little video-the goofiest part is when they show the 40-ish man in the snuggie--cracked me up!! Is that you Todd?!

Think I might apply...

No spelling test required!

Where to start...where to start

One evening when I was in the hospital, Larry and Sean came to see me. Larry asked me what I had done that day-I told him I had gone for a test and then basically just sat around. Apparantly that wasn't good enough, because he asked me if I had gotten up and walked around. I got a bit defensive I must admit (ha!) and told him that I wasn't told I needed to get up and walk around,"No one said I had to!" was my comment! He said that there were 80 year old women who had just had heart surgery walking down the hall and that I needed to get out there! After much pestering on his part, I got my hiney out of bed to walk down the hall. I don't know what was so funny-Sean and Larry think they are comedians but that is another post, but as we walked down the hall I laughed and laughed. It was just what I needed. Then the best part-there was a sign listing all the head nurses--one of them was named Lafawnda!! (Remember Kip's online girlfriend?!) Sean and I thought that was the funniest thing ever, until the next day when I found out she was white-not a black amazon woman. Poor Sean was so upset.
